Yard Work and Gramoms

GIF-3.gif picture by Domsmom27

                                        HELLO NICE PEOPLE

What a beautiful day here at the Jersey Shore.  I have been cleaning most of the day.  Well, cleaning  when I wasn't watching the pope on television.  He sure had a busy day.  By 7 PM I was beginning to get nervous for him.  He has been on the go since early this morning and still at it at 7:00.  I do a little bit of work and then sit down to watch.

Seems the trend now is to downsize all your "stuff."  Everyone is saying to throw away.   Well, thats what I started out to do.  I ended with 2 bags of trash and 2 bags of saved clothes.  Now the next step is to go thru the 2 bags of saved clothes and see what I can trash.  Sometimes it is just hard to part with things.  But I am beginning to agree that life would be so much easier with less.

Hubby still has a bad back, so Mel,  the  daughter came over to help with the yard work.  You can always count on Melody.  She cut the front and back yards.  Then she put down lime and fertilizer.  Its so hard to believe that she will be 40 in a few weeks.  And it seems like yesterday that I was doing it for my Mother.  When this picture of my mother was taken, I was about 40.  This is my brother and sister with her.   I am not in this picture because she didn't like me very much.  No ,really, thats the truth. But dear old Ma,  she was always in a house dress and rolled up stockings. she wore her hair in, what she called a rattail.

DadGrandmomAuntLil.jpg image by Domsmom27   Today,  I don't think you can even buy a house dress.   My mother was still using a wringer washer in the 1980's.   And she loved her babushka.  Or as we called it, a scarf.

Today Grandmoms are in sneakers and jeans.  We have I pods and computers. And some of us still are working.

But my Grandmother, now she was the cutest little thing.  She was straight from Poland and couldn't speak a word of English.

But I do have a picture of  her.  She always wore a bonnet on her head.  My mother used to make them for her.  I guess it was a Polish thing.  And I remember she always had a hanky in her hand.  Here is my Grandmother, right from Poland

Grandkids, They'll get you every time

gif-9.gif image by Domsmom27                                      Hello nice people

Donna, from My Country Life just gave me a perfect way to start todays Entry:

It reminds me of a quote from Plato:  "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."

Well, yesterday was not a good day.  And I still have it in the front of my brain.  Mel and SIL wanted to go out to dinner and just chill out for a few hours.  Of course,  we were asked to watch the kids for a short while.  You know, we have one grandson, Nick who has cognitive disabilities.

100_1132-1.jpg picture by Domsmom27

This is Nick.  I took this picture bc I think he looks like Glenn Beck on CNN.

Well Nick had a total meltdown on the front lawn.  He does not want Mommy to go anywhere without him.  We tried getting him to come into the house but it was no use.  And poor Anthony, stood there crying.  I said Ant, come in the house.  I asked him why HE was crying and he said because I feel sorry for Mommy and Daddy to go thru this.  Which made me cry.  but I didn't want him to know.  Later Mel said she asked him why he was crying and he said I feel sorry for Mom-Mom.  This little guy has a lot on his shoulders.  Its not easy being the little brother.

Well, nobody went to dinner.  Nick knew he was in trouble when he calmed down.  And Ant stayed for porkchops.

And thats my story.  I have been on this puter for hours in between cooking supper for tonite and also for tomorrow nite.   Everyone have a good Monday and week ahead.

TAXES

ZZwaittilyoureadthis.gif picture by Domsmom27HELLO NICE PEOPLE,

I made it through another week.  We have Friday off from work, but we DO have to be at meeting in the morning.  This meeting is supposed to last 45 minutes.  So, 125 Drivers are going to drive about 30 miles in their cars with gas at $3.00 a gallon just in case they want to ask some questions about the school.  Go Figure!

I am still figting the darn ole RED X.  redbox.gif picture by Domsmom27

TAXES

Tax time always makes me nervousI always have this feeling that I am going to forget something,  or forget to sign it or forget the check.  Yesterday, we finished preparing the taxes, signed both copies and I wrote out a check.  Of course, Hubby is no  help with his "did you sign it?,  don't  fold it like that,  did you put all the pages in?, Did you sign the check?, Did you put the right stamps on it?  Yadda, Yadda, Yadda!!!!  And I did it all RIGHT.......and then I threw it in the TRASH.  Yep, I did.  I cleaned off the table and put everything away and put the tax envelopes in the trash instead of the mailbox.

As I was driving back to AC,  something just did not seem right.  Did I put those envelopes in the mailbox??  I don't remember...hmmmmm.  OH well,  I must have, where else would I have put them.  Not to worry.  I worry too much.

Brinngggg goes the cell phone!  Hubby--->  "Hey. I opened the trash compactor  and guess what was in there?"  Me--->  "Oh yeah, the taxes,  I just put them in there til I get home.  Then I'll  put them in the mailbox.

Here is that picture of  Dominic, my son that would not come out on the last entry.  Lets see if it comes out this time

Chef Dominic.  FYI : Chefs don't wear the big tall hats anymore.  Seems they are top heavy and  hot and get caught on things.  The new hat of choice is baseball caps, since they must wear some kind of head covering in the kitchen.  But the big tall ones are used for graduations.

THAT DARN RED X

HELLO NICE PEOPLE,

You know,  I sat and made an entry the other nite, and it took me a long time too.  And when I hit save,  none of the pictures showed.  this happens all the time.  Makes me NOT HAPPY!!!    I get that darn Red X.

It has been raining all day here at the Shore.  it was supposed to rain yesterday and be nice today.  But just the opposite happened.  We had some good news at Mass today, but sad for other people.  Many Catholic churches are closing.  I hate to say it but because of poor attendance and changing demographics.  In the big cities, there is a church in every little neighborhood from days gone by.  With the old folks dying and many younger ones not going to church, they have no other choice  but to close some churches.  So the church in the nearby town is going to merge with St. Bernadettes.  I am happy for us but sad that they have to lose their church.

I have been cooking all day.  I cooked a pot of beans and corn bread.  I got that idea from the recipes at Confessions of a Pioneer Woman.  I also have a pot of stuffed cabbage and a small pork roast with sweet potatoes.   We should be good til at least Wednesday.  My son Dominic came in yesterday and I  showed him a package of sun dried tomatoes that I had in the fridge.  Dominic is a Chef......and I have to admit, "he is good."  Of course, I had a method behind my madness,  (Is that how it goes?)  Before I knew it, he was whipping a nice supper of sundried tomatoes, asparagus, Gnocchi, garlic etc.  And it was GOOD.

Time to get supper on the table.............We all will have a good and safe week.

An old red house

HELLO NICE PEOPLE,

J Land is full of happenings.  Sugar is back.   Woooo Hooo.  Mosie is planning a big move...  To the other side.  Joyce is busy with her PSP,   Ree. aka Pioneer Woman is back with her new Journal, and    Sonya aka  BooknCoffee is moving into a new house.                                              I was surfing thru some Journals a few nights ago.  I came upon Mosies SONS Journal.  Thats where I found the best picture.  I would like to say "beautiful"  but peeps would think I am CRAZY.  Its a picture of an old ramshackle house.   I hope Mosies son doesn't mind if I show it to everyone. For some reason, old houses always catch my eye.   Some psychoanalist could probably  tell me what my problem is.  Some PSYCHO could probablly tell me what my problem is!! Now if that was my house, I would kill  Hubby.  But this old house just looks like there is so much history.

BaconsMotel.jpg

There has to be an interesting story behind it.  I love the way door is open...,like someone just left it and walked away.  I bet there was a rocking chair on the porch  at one time.  OMG,  I think I am losingit.

This will be my next ramshackle house.  (LOL)!!!!

I am going to lay down...................bye.
