Hello Nice People,
Saturday was a busy day. I wanted to get out to the stores----just me----no hubby. Believe me, there IS such a thing as too much togetherness. We both went to Target last Sunday to get a present for a wedding shower I have coming up. I picked out one thing and he is ready to go. So back yesterday by myself. I checked her registry, looking for something easy. The brides registry was six pages WOW!!!!. And you have to search for the aisle and the little tag on the shelf to see if its the one she picked out. I think it was easier when we just went and bought what WE liked. And what UGLY colors she picked. Towels and sheets in "Pidgeon GREY." UGH!! But I guess bridal registrys are a good idea because I would have bought her everything in Country and Rachel Ashwells Shabby Chic. Her registry had everything from a $1600.00 TV to a $150.00 pup tent.....Go figure!
Then, Grandson Angelo had a football game at 2 PM. He is 11 yo and plays JV ball. And I have to say, he is quite good. My son, Dominic is the coach. And the two of them live and breathe local football.
Dominic and Angelo at an Eagles game last year.
We sat on the bleachers watching Dominic barking commands and pulling kids in and out. The sounds and the smells....people talking....cheerleaders cheering....the sun going in and out of the clouds....one minute its hot, the next minute its cold. I closed my eyes and I was back 30 years when Dominic was the little kid playing out there.
He was 7 and I took him by the little hand to register for FOOTBALL. I remember saying to Mr Sinagria, "Now he's only seven, I hope he's not going to get hurt." Well, that was the beginning of 8 more years of "Dominic, get ready for football.....Dominic, where's your pads....Dominic, where's your helmet, your cup, your spikes? But it was 8 great fun years that we spent with other families watching and working little kids football. Eight years that we lined up our pick up trucks and sat on the tailgates to watch the kids play. Eating baloney and mayo sandwiches and passing around a roll of toilet paper for napkins.
Yesterday, I watched the young Moms in their 30's, photo buttons of their players or cheerleaders pinned to their shirts, (we never had them). Dads walking back and forth on the sidelines complaining that their son has not played yet.
I closed my eyes and went back 30 years. Nothing has changed. Except Dominic is now the Dad, and HIS wife is now over their with all the other Moms.
And we are just Grandmom and Poppy.........sitting on the bottom row of the bleachers cuz its too hard to climb to the top.
Ange got to go on the field at an EAGLES game.
Here's Ange with announcer Tony Seragusa

Boy Ange looks so happy with those cheerleaders! ;) I never grew up with any football influene. My daddy was not into sports, so I never heard that drone of the Sunday football game as he snoozed away. (I have seen that at other homes though.) When I met Ian it was soccer everything. That was in our teen years. He played til his body wouldnt let him anymore. I guess its been well over five years ago that he quit playing. XOXO Kelly
ReplyDeletePS Forgot to say...what ever happened to some nice wine glasses or a kitchen implement, or a crystal serving tray for a gift? Pup tent? TV? Ha...yeah right. Wasnt going to happen in my lifetime...lol. Kelly
