IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

Hello Nice People,

Well, the ole girl is having a birthday today. Yep, that's me. I am now a 65 year old woman. That sounds bad doesn't it? From now on I will be referred to as

1. The elderly woman

2. The old broad

3. The old lady

4. From the olden days

5. Decrepit

6. Aged

7. Senile

When you come to this milestone in life, I think everyone sits back and wonders, "Where did the years go?' When did life pass me by? It was just yesterday that I had dreams and plans on the front burner of life. Did they all come to fruition? Probably not, but I have a contented and happy life for which I am thankful. I often think of my mother at this age. She would have been sitting in her rocker wearing her housedress (remember those?) and her black thick heel shoes with the laces in the front (remember them?) She would have been crocheting another afghan for someone. But here I am in Jeans, a T shirt and sneakers. Not crocheting, but typing away on my computer. I get up at 5 AM every morning for work. Drive 200 miles a day, come home and cook for me and Hubby. Yes, there is definetly a big difference in the 65 year old of yesterday and the 65 year old of today.

So I will take the 65! I will let people open the door for me when I go to 7-11. I will just shrug my shoulders when people say, "Hey, when are you going to retire?" And, I will NOT whine about my aches and pains
Last night, Daughter and her family and Son and his family, Hubby and I went to dinner at a local seafood restaurant called Oyster Creek. Its a little hole in the wall that sits way back on the marshes. The kids wanted to treat for my birthday. Now Son in Law has been out of work since November and Son is just getting back to work, so there is no way that we would let them pay for Dinner for 10 people. We have money squirelled away just for something like this so Hubby insisted we pay for dinner. After much bantering, Hubby finally wrestled the bill away. They were not too happy about not treating but they'll get over it. I would rather they use that money for the kids school clothes. And the bill? $278.00 Yes, going out to dinner is getting much too expensive. But it's nice to get together with kids and grandkids. What more could I ask for? Life is Good!!!!!

  8. Happy birthday Marlene, I'm 74, maybe we could just reverse our numbers for awhile, that's a thought. I was at a retirement party last night for a lady who had worked 12 years at a packing plant, before that she was a waitress, before that she was retired from GM, AND she had 8 children AND she will be 89 in October. She was getting tired of people asking her when she was going to stop working. Have a great year.
