THE SHIP HOUSE

Hello Nice People,

This was the neatest building. This was known as the Absecon Ship House. I remember being fascinated with this place as far back as when I was a little kid riding on the bus into Atlantic City. I have passed it thousands of times on my early morning run and then in the afternoon coming out of town. I think it was originally built to house the office for a trailer park that was once located in the rear of the building. But for many years, it was an antique and junk shop. Slowly, as I passed by these last few years, I could see that it was falling into disrepair. Then one day this past Spring, yellow tape appeared all around the perimeter. Now that is never good news. Then I missed a weekend going by.....on Monday, it was gone. I was so shocked that I almost ran off the road. Torn down!!!!! What a shame, what a waste. Wasn't there anyone who would have been interested in this place? Why do we just throw away things from the past? A ship sitting on the edge of the highway. The nearest water, the Atlantic Ocean 6 miles down the road. I wanted it. What would I do with this crazy looking building? I would have cleaned it up. Swept the floor and washed the windows. Then I would sit out front in a comfy chair and wave to the traffic whizzing by on the way to Atlantic City. I would become known as the "Crazy Shiphouse Lady." ............Oh well, I guess I'll go and clean the bathroom.

  1. That is such a shame they tore it down.I agree that would have been the neatest place to own and sit in front ,maybe with a little water pond and a yard lighthouse by it and little fish swimming in the pond.

  3. that place could have been fixed up nice for some homeless family. A terrible waste. 4.4 million people out of work and they are tearing down homes.
