It is a Rainy, miserable night. they are calling for possible flooding in some parts of New Jersey. I guess its a stay at home Saturday, tomorrow.
Melody and family are back from Disneyworld. It was a safe and enjoyable trip. We were just discussing Nick, he is our handicapped one. I hate that word, but there is really no other one to use. It seems that he was on a mission to see all the Disney characters and especially Mickey Mouse. We have figured it out that to him, Disneyworld is a town where they all live. He does not draw a line between fantasy and the real world. When they DID get to Mickeys house, it seems that the kitchen was in disarray because Goofy left it that way. And Nick found this upsetting that someone would do this to Mickey.
Mom you should have seen him. I don't know everything he was thinking but he was so in awe with everything, even the plane, but he does it so quietly. He doesn't jump around like a little kid he just takes it all in. He didn't want to do anything that was in the dark like a lot of the rides but he did anything else we asked. He just walked and walked because he wanted to see what was next. His Teacher says he will eventually grow out of it like we all do. I think that is more of a shame than believing in things when you are too old.>Anyway, it was nice to see it through his eyes and see him
>enjoy it. His nine year old brother was more into the
>roller coasters and other rides, which was great too!

The above was in an email that Mel sent me. Sometime she can explain things better than I can.

Aww - I remember when my son Brian who is autistic went to Disney for the first time - he was 2 and for the first 3 days he kept his hand over his face lol he didn't want to look at the characters. The third day he was peaking at them between his fingers - by the 5th day he was out of his stroller and running up to the characters and hugging them lol. WE WORE HIM DOWN!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen he found out that the charaters were just people in costumes when he got older - he decided he hated disney and never wanted to go back.
It was like one big lie to him lol.
I'm glad they had a great time.
hugs,
Michelle
Awww thanks for sharing. I understand not liking the word Handicap. Its funny but a while ago I came accross a man who had a web site devoted to educating people about the challenges he faced and people like him. He also said people were going a little bit too far with the political correct stuff and said "Hey, I'm Handicapped! It's a fact no matter what way you say it." I wanted to share it with you, I looked for the link but couldn't find it.
ReplyDeleteI know it makes me uncomfortable too. Around here were I live they call it Physically or Mentally Challenged. I like that.
